Track commentary:
1. Art Drawn By Vomit – Personally, I find this track offensive because I’m a Christian, so I’ve never listened to it.
2. Agony – It’s… okay. Typical GazettE.
3. Hyena – Same as Agony. This is the more boring part of the album for me.
4. Burial Applicant – Cool PV. *_* This is a pretty good song. It’s also very sad. Then again, a lot of GazettE stuff sounds upbeat but is really quite moving. Huh.
5. Ganges ni Akai Bara – THE BASS SOLO SONG. \o/ Now, everyone who knows me knows I love bass solos. I love bass in general. This song is my song-to-indulge-in on this album. XD Yeah. Reita’s solo is cool omg. \o/ [See, I've degenerated into brainless fangirling.] That aside, this song really is catchy. ![]()
6. Regret – You’d expect some sad sappy song with the title ‘Regret’, wouldn’t you? Anyway, it probably /is/ sad and sappy, but it sure doesn’t sound like it is. It’s… a rock ballad, I guess you could say? But it does some pretty cheerful.
7. Calm Envy – I LOVE THIS SONG TO BITS. \o/ Yeah. It’s the most ballad-y ballad on the entire album, and it is gorgeous. *_* Aoi really works his acoustic guitar here, in a completely beautiful way, and I’m really jealous of his skill. Never mind. I’ll get them someday, and meanwhile, I’ll listen to this song and love it. <3 This sounds sad and IS sad. Huzzah. I translated this in the music encyclopedia.
8. Swallowtail on the Death Valley – The beginning is cute. XD Unmastered drumming plus Uruha’s guitar, then it breaks into the real body of the song. You could say that this is, hm, one of the more questionable songs on the album, lyricswise. Otherwise, I actually do like this song. A lot of people don’t like it because of the female vocals, I think, but in my opinion it adds a lot more to the song than Ruki alone would be able to. ![]()
9. Mob 136 Bars – Um… not too fond of this. Too wild and messy for me.
If you’re wondering why ‘Mob 136 Bars’, it’s because the song has 136 bars in the score. Yeah, I know. Lame, right? XD
10. Gentle Lie – They should have put this track before Mob 136 Bars, because it’s a jazz-ish sort of ballad. Not as beautiful as Calm Envy, but I like it all the same.
11. Filth in the Beauty – THE song to headbang to. Watch the PV. They do this… swirly sort of headbang at exactly the same time in unison. I love it, it’s so cheesy.
I call it the washing machine headbang. Questionable lyrics are extremely questionable, and they’re all in English, which makes it worse. But it’s super catchy in that brain-numbing “THIS SONG HAS SUNK INTO MY HED PERMANENTLY” sort of way.
12. Circle of Swindler – Changed my mind. I actually quite like this song – it has cute chord sequences. :3 That’s some hella fast drumming Kai does, too. I think this song is 200++ bpm? That’s, uh, fast. Also, I’m amused at the fact that this song is on the album despite the fact that it’s ranting against the record company (and the censorship, I think).
13. Chizuru – It’s a ballad again, apparently written for this girl that they’re all friends with. It’s… okay. Definitely not my favorite ballad from GazettE ever.
14. People Error – Contrary to what most people would expect, this track is all piano. Really, really. Just quiet piano playing in a minor key, and this makes me conclude that Ruki never studied music theory, because this goes against a lot of it. But that’s what makes it interesting, hm?

I really liked what you had to say about the record ^^ thank you, you gave me new viewpoints on some of the songs xD
While this isn’t my favorite album of theirs (mine is NIL), it still is a really good album. I’m glad i’m not the only one who found Art Drawn By Agony offensive (although it is a really upbeat song). And yeah, Filth in the beauty is what makes the album!
For me I also find Art Drawn by Vomit offensive,
it’s the only song I don’t want to listen to, but the rest is still great! ^_^
Hey mate, I am not Christian but I do think it is offensive as well. Somehow. Like using God’s name in vain… Is that for the same reason you never listened to Art Drawn by Vomit?
In music side, I much prefer their old form. This album sounds too Western-ish
Thanks.
Some of these song reviews I COMPLETELY disagreed with. Like I don’t like “Calm Envy” at all, I don’t like “Gentle Lie”, “Hyena” definitely isn’t the most boring song on the album, “Art Drawn By Vomit” isn’t really that offensive (it’s just a song, come on!) and “Chizuru” is a million times better than “Calm Envy”. Definitely the best ballad they’ve ever done.
But of course, all of these are MY opinions.
@oskernaut,
Hi, thanks for the comment. Although I’ve grown to appreciate Chizuru more than I did before, I still think Calm Envy is better than that, and I also think Cassis is their best ballad ever. ;]
To me, Hyena and Agony make up the most boring part of the album. I always skip past those two tracks and start with Burial Applicant, because there is nothing interesting about those two songs when they’re side-by-side. Singly, maybe. Together? No.
Then again, since you dislike Calm Envy and Gentle Lie, and you like Hyena, then you’re probably a fan of their harder songs, while I’m not.
The new single, LEECH, ought to be to your taste. Enjoy it!
I guess I wouldn’t exactly label “Chizuru” as their best ballad song, but it is ONE of their best ballads. Personally I can’t really pick my favorite. I also love D.L.N.
To me, “Ganges Ni Akai Bara”, “Calm Envy”, and “Gentle Lie” are the most boring songs to me on the album. “Agony” to me is good because you get to experience all of Ruki’s hard work on his English (it may not be the best but you can still tell he’s trying) and also it’s very different from their other songs. It’s nice to hear something different for a change.
That’s actually true. I prefer GazettE’s harder songs like “[DIS]” and “$ocial Riot Machine$” but I also have to say “Filth In The Beauty” is my favorite song by them. I don’t really limit myself to their harder songs because a lot of their songs are pretty much amazing. Some of their songs just don’t appeal to me.
Oh and I have the song “Leech”. At least the preview of it. I can’t wait until the full version comes out! It hasn’t, right? I’ve been too focused on Korean music. >.<
Lol oops.. the PV came out for it. XD *Rushes off to watch*
I think Kare Uta ranks as one of the top ballads for me.
The bass slides in the chorus make it sound unique. I also thought Guren was pretty good; I liked the strings arrangement and it sounded different in a very refreshing way.
Really? I thought Ganges ni Akai Bara was pretty interesting. I felt it gave Reita more of a spotlight, which is lovely, because bassists in general are so underrated. I liked the bass solos.
Filth in the Beauty is what made me sit up and take note of them in the first place.
Without FITB, I’d never have started listening to GazettE at all. :3 Still one of my favorite songs~.
Haha, the PV for Leech was a bit wtf-inducing for me because of the girl sprouting things. x_x;; I’ll just wait for the single to come out…
I’m on my laptop at the moment so I can’t exactly listen to “Kare Uta” T_T “Guren” was good but I’ve kinda heard other songs like it so it didn’t really appeal to me as much as their other songs.
“Shadow VI II I” gave Reita a spotlight to me. The bass was just sooo strong that’s all I could think about. “Ganges Ni Akai Bara” is different, yes, but it just doesn’t have that.. kick. Does that make sense?
Me too. “Filth In The Beauty” is the first song I heard of them and I instantly fell in love with it.
And it still IS my favorite song.
Ruki’s hair was a little wtf-inducing too. XD The song is interesting too. A bit different from what I’ve heard. I can tell they spent a while on it to make it perfect for their fans. I can’t wait for the single! T_T
I thought Guren was different for them because strings never played such an important part in their music (er, at least, according to what I remember…)
Oh, yes, I love Shadow VI I I! :3 It’s a GREAT song, definitely one of my GazettE top 10. =3= I understand what you mean, yes, Shadow was to show off Reita solely, but Ganges ni Akai Bara was to push him a little more forward in contrast to the others. Kind of?
The first time I blasted it, my sister complained, “Your weird Japanese music is screwing with my heartbeat!! STOOOOOOOOP!” XD
Oh, man, Ruki’s curly hair was… Truly awful. x_x;; I’m so glad he seems to be done with that stage. Aoi’s hair is unbelievably flat. D: I’m glad Uruha got to drop the shorts, though. :3
I don’t really understand what you mean, but okay. XD
Mine too.
I agree that the bass is important in “Ganges Ni Akai Bara”, but I think that it’s more subtle than “Shadow VI II I” (except the bass solo in the middle). I don’t know. T_T Let’s just agree Reita is an amazing bassist and needs to be promoted more in the band.
The first time I found it, I sent it to all my friends and converted them to Jrock. XD Now they know all the groups I like.
It looked like a perm gone wrong. x_x Aoi’s hair has been parted down the middle for sooo long. I liked his hair back in their “Filth In The Beauty” days. T_T I love when Uruha actually dresses like a guy. Or wears leather (Burial Applicant! woo! And Leech?).
Reita /is/ a pretty good bassist, haha. I’m so tired of songs where the bass is playing stuff so simple that /I/ could play it. I’m not a bassist! I shouldn’t be able to play what you’re playing! =A= I love melodic basslines, like Reita’s and Tetsu’s (from L’Arc) :3
Ooh, me too! I converted quite a few of my friends, and those whom I couldn’t convince were people who listen to bubblegum pop only, haha. FITB is a great conversion (!!) song.
One of my friends whom I converted told me about it first, and then I went to look at it and we spent a while whining and making fun of it. XD I used to think Aoi had pretty good taste in hair, but unfortunately this year that opinion was washed down the drain. -cough- I loved their Stacked Rubbish outfits! =w= Whooo shiny black clothes, haha. Their recent solo photoshoots have left me alternately gaping and wailing in disbelief. x_X Did you see Kai’s butterfly shoot? I nearly died.
We seem to get along better than I would have thought from the get-go XDD
Yeah I’ve never played the bass before but sometimes I feel that I can play it. I haven’t really heard much of L’Arc~En~Ciel so I can’t say much for Tetsu.
The friends I converted liked Asian/Japanese things anyways so it was pretty easy. But then there was this one girl that made fun of me because I listen to Asian music. Well one day I made her listen to GazettE’s songs off Stacked Rubbish and she’s like “Can I have the CD?”
Maybe we should blame his hairstylist because I’m sure he’d style his own hair differently. Their Stacked Rubbish outfits were their best yet! I haven’t seen any photoshoots of GazettE.
I was just stating my opinion the first comment, not trying to really be friendly. I’m actually pretty friendly once you talk to me more. XD
I made my own audio rip from “Leech” and it actually sounds good, do you want me to give you the link for it? I uploaded it on my mediafire account and I’m uploading their pv right now. I cut out the beginning of the rip because it was just silence. So yes, no?
Bass is a pretty simple instrument, not difficult to figure out. Keyboard’s much more difficult.
Haha, yeah, me too. There was this girl whom I jokingly dragged over to watch videos with, and she made horrified faces at everything I showed her (FITB – “AAAAHHHH WHAT’S WITH THE SCARY OLD MAN”, Silly God Disco – “AHHHHHHW WHAT’S UP WITH THAT GUY’S LEGS”) It was oh-so-very fun. XD Unfortunately she refused to convert, haha.
I thought they said in an interview in the past, they get together and discuss what they should wear and how they should do their hair? I thought their hairstylist only does, well, the styling.
You can check out gazette_daily for magazine scans… The mod scans just about everything that comes out, I’m pretty impressed. XD
Ooh, yes, that’d be awesome! Thanks. =3=
Oh gosh. The keyboard. I don’t have enough skill to play 2 things at once. T_T
XD I should do that with someone! Just to see their reactions. *Gets “Vanilla” and “Yuuyami Suicide” ready*
Then it IS Aoi’s bad judgement then! The hairstylist should tell them what doesn’t look good.
I’m a member of that comm but I never really.. check it. XD
